IT Synergy, leading provider of cloud solutions and development, has been chosen by the National Research Center to implement its HPC over Cloud technology in two Egyptian research institutes, the Informatics Research Institute of Alexandria (IRI) and the Electronic Research Institute of Cairo (ERI). To be developed together with computing leader Dell, this will be the first project of its kind in the region, marrying High-Performance-Computing and cloud technologies in a way not seen in the country before.
IT Synergy, experts in cloud technology, today announced it will provide the expertise to build two new datacenters for Egyptian scientific research using Dell hardware as a turnkey solution. Located in institutes in Cairo and Alexandria, these will be based on the latest technology available for the provision of High-Performance-Computing to researchers. Egyptian scientists will have now access to resources not available anywhere else in the region.
These abundant resources will also be shared out towards other useful public and private ventures, and the 12 TFLOPs of CPU and GPU, together with a storage subsystem totaling at 1 Petabyte (over one trillion megabytes) in both centers will increase the availability of computing to Egyptian businesses and analysts by several orders of magnitude. These datacenters will grow together with their communities, providing other cloud services to ensure the centers remain sustainable.
The cloud solution developed by IT Synergy, the EvolvE Stratus, is based on the Open Cloud Industry Standard, OpenStack, which will be paired together with Proactive by ActiveOn for the provision of HPC. This will all run on the most advanced Dell servers and storage, including the most advanced 10GB network platform based on SDN - Software Defined Networks. Together, they will build technology that will push Egypt towards becoming a hub for cloud computing and advanced research in the region.
Enzo Puliatti, CEO of IT Synergy, comments that: "This is a unique opportunity to properly position Egypt in the EMEA Cloud developmental agenda and to lead Cloud Development in the Africa and Middle East by using leading edge Open Cloud technology and providing strong capacity building for the development of qualified human resources".
